It will be fair to say that by the end of the season Brewood and Halesowen chess clubs will have got to know each other! As there are only eight teams in the Wolverhampton Chess League Division 3, the league selected teams at random so each team would have a 10 game season.
Both the A and the B teams got drawn to play Halesowen twice in the Wolverhampton League, and with the new team in the Dudley League also playing against them that means the clubs are scheduled to play each other 5 times during the season. On 19th February 2013, both the Wolverhampton A team and the Dudley League team will be playing away matches against Halesowen!
More immediately though is the 2nd of those 5 meetings which takes place at home on Tuesday night (27th November) at the club. Halesowen Chess Club has 12 teams competing in the Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Worcestershire Chess Leagues. Last season the Halesowen B team got relegated from Wolverhampton Chess League Division 2, and so the clubs didn't play each other.
Halesowen have already faced the A team this season at home losing 4-1 and the B team will be hoping for the same result. An extra incentive for the B team is they will go above the A team should they win the match.
The team news is as of yet unconfirmed with captain Paul Guest keeping his cards close to his chest. A well placed source suggests that David Blower is unavailable after being called into work on Tuesday night. David Buckley is one of the top players so far this season in the Wolverhampton Chess League, and will be hoping to keep up his good form if selected on Tuesday.
The club would like to wish whoever plays well for the match. For those not playing in the fixture the club will be open for the internal club competitions or even just for friendlies.
