Match Report:

Board 1: Paul Wright 1-0 Barry Lewis. The opening was King’s Indian Attack (A07). A strong middlegame attack from White won the exchange, but Black won three pawns in quick succession after the attack was over. This led to an endgame struggle where White managed to regain two pawns, giving him a slight material advantage (Rook vs Bishop & Pawn). Black may have had drawing chances, but he blundered under pressure, leading to an instant checkmate from White.

Paul quoted: At move 40 I wasn't sure if I could win. My opponent had a passed pawn and a lot more time to think than me. It would have been very interesting to see what would have happened if my opponent hadn't blundered.

Board 2: M. Rutter 1-0 Paul Guest. This was Brewood's only loss of the evening. This board's report is currently unavailable.

Board 3: Andrew Davies 1-0 John Dugmore. The opening was English (A25).
