The fixtures meetings were some time ago, but the website webmaster has finally recovered from a busy schedule of work, and a holiday to Scotland. You do not get these web delays at professional football clubs! Here is the report on the fixtures for the Cannock Chess League and Dudley Chess League teams fixtures for the 2014-2015 season.
Mark Binfield is the captain of the Cannock League team and has a hectic start whilst I [David Blower] have a more relaxing start and then a set of fixtures spread out over the season for the Dudley League team. The fixtures in both leagues are generated by agreement between the clubs, which can often make the fixture arrangements difficult as both clubs try and find suitable gaps in their schedules.
Each club probably have their own criteria for arranging the fixtures and Brewood turned up to both meetings with our own criteria as agreed at the club committee meeting on Tuesday 3rd June 2014 and then communicated to club members at the club AGM on Tuesday 17th June 2014. Considering the fixtures are generated by agreement between the clubs the fixture meetings have gone really well.
Cannock League Division 3
The Cannock League fixtures meeting was on Tuesday 8th July 2014. As far as I know both Andrew Davies and Mark Binfield attended the fixtures meeting on behalf of the club.
There are 9 teams in the Cannock Chess League division 3, including Brewood. This includes two separate teams from Lichfield (Lichfield A and Lichfield B.) Each team plays each other team once in the league for a total of 8 fixtures. Brewood have ended up with 3 home fixtures and 5 away fixtures.
In alphabetical order the teams including Brewood in the Cannock Chess League division 3 next season are as follows:
Boldmere St. Michaels
Compared to last season Tamworth enter the league and both Cannock and Rugeley are leaving the league meaning the club will have 1 fewer fixture in the league this coming season.
Here is the fixture list for the Brewood team in the Cannock Chess League Division 3 in full: (Fixtures are always on Tuesday at home, the day of the week for an away match is always stated. Fixtures at home are bolded.)
3 Boldmere St. Michaels Away (Wednesday)
9 Lichfield A Home
21 Sutton Coldfield Home
7 Bushbury Away (Wednesday)
5 Tamworth Away (Thursday)
19 Lichfield B Away (Thursday)
31 Rushall Home
16 Wolverhampton Away (Thursday)
Last season the club finished 3rd out of 10 in the league and the best ever finish the club has finished in this league is 2nd but the club have never won the league. Let us hope that this will chance this coming season.
Dudley League Division 3
Andrew Davies and I attended the Dudley Chess League 2014 AGM on Brewood's behalf on Wednesday 13th August and therefore also the fixtures meeting that followed the AGM.
There are 7 teams in the Dudley Chess League division 3, including Brewood. Each team plays each other team in the league once for a total of 6 fixtures. Half of the fixtures are at home and half of them away.
In alphabetical order the teams including Brewood in the Dudley Chess League division 3 this coming season are as follows:
Before I announce the fixtures as I went to the fixtures meeting I can give some information about how Andrew and I felt it went. I think the fixtures meeting for the Dudley League for Brewood went splendid and it would be difficult to think of how the fixtures meeting could have gone any better. Andrew commented that it was one of the easiest fixture meetings that he has ever been to.
We managed to avoid completely the month of February which is full of fixtures for the B team in the Wolverhampton Chess League. You will also notice that there are no fixtures for the Cannock League or Dudley League teams during November and December which is full of fixtures for the Wolverhampton League A team and Wolverhampton League B teams.
There are 3 clashes of Dudley League fixtures with the Wolverhampton League A team as the fixtures have been designed this way but on nights where the Wolverhampton League A team are away. This means that for the 2 home fixtures arranged so far even though the Wolverhampton League A team and Dudley League teams clash the Dudley League team will still have the home venue to ourselves.
The Dudley League teams fixtures are spread out with fixtures in October, 2 in January, March and then April, with March also being a busy time in the Cannock Chess League for the club.
Here is the fixture list for the Brewood team in the Dudley Chess League Division 3 in full: (Fixtures are always on Tuesday at home, the day of the week for an away match is always stated. Fixtures at home are bolded.)
29 Stourbridge Away (Wednesday)
13 Bushbury Home
27 Warley Quinborne Home
24 Halesowen Away (Tuesday)
9 Walsall Kipping Away (Thursday)
Mercia were not at the meeting so a home fixture against them still has to be arranged.
Brewood's history in the Dudley Chess League is a good one having won it in 2012-2013 our first season in the league with an unbeaten league record. We failed to retain the league last season but we hope to win it back this coming season.
This just leaves the Shropshire Rapidplay fixtures to be arranged which are arranged by the league. And then us to play the fixtures! Good chess everyone.
