The fixtures are out

Posted on July 2, 2014 at 8:15 PM

The Wolverhampton Chess League fixtures are out for the 2014-2015 season, subject to final confirmation from the Wolverhampton Chess League.

These fixtures cover both the A team in the Wolverhampton Chess League division 2, and also the B team in the Wolverhampton Chess League division 3.  The date of our Humphreys Trophy fixture a 1st round and also a quarter final fixture away to Wolverhampton has also been agreed.  The full details of everything will follow in this article:

John Fenby and Andrew Davies turned up at the fixture meeting on behalf of the club which was at Bushbury Chess club on Wednesday 25th June 2014.  The club thanks both of them for turning up to the meeting.

The fixtures are generated by agreement between the clubs.  The Birmingham Chess League had already had their fixture meeting, which a lot of clubs in the Wolverhampton Chess League are also involved in.

Both John Fenby and Andrew Davies commented on this:

John Fenby:  "The Birmingham League Fixtures Meeting had already been held so other clubs attended with some dates already taken."

Andrew Davies:  "The BDCL fixture meet is usually the first.  From what I saw of some fixture lists for other clubs yesterday, already busy with BDCL fixtures, I suspect some clubs will have a very hectic schedule ahead of them.  Seemed harder to find agreeable WDCL dates than in previous years."

Brewood turned up with their own criteria which was agreed at the club committee meeting on Tuesday 3rd June 2014 and as discussed during the club's AGM.  Considering the BDCL fixture meeting had already being held, John Fenby and Andrew Davies have both done an excellent job arranging the fixtures, according to the agreed criteria.

We did not get absolutely everything we wanted, and the main point that went against us was that the Brewood B team will have a crowded fixture list in February.  Yet a less crowded fixture list in February could have meant other agreed criteria would go against us.  Overall though it is quite good and you will see why when you read the fixture list yourself.  Here are the full details of the fixture list:

Brewood B team in Wolverhampton Chess League division 3:

The Brewood B team are in the Wolverhampton Chess League division 3 for the 4th season in a row.  Last season the Brewood B team managed their best finish in at least 10 years.  In the Wolverhampton Chess League division 3 there are 8 teams in the league, including Brewood B.  Each team plays 10 fixtures with half of them at home and half of them away.

It was felt that each team playing each other team once for a total of 7 fixtures was too few fixtures but that each team playing each other team twice, once home and once away for a total of 14 fixtures was too many.  Each team plays each other team once in the league for a total of 7 fixtures.

An extra 3 fixtures are generated by the league doing a random draw to decide which teams play each other twice and which teams only once.  That is the method used to save you trying to puzzle yourselves working it out later on in the season!   We have been drawn to play Mercia B, Rushall B and Walsall Kipping B twice.
