On Tuesday 11th June Brewood play Stafford in the Wolverhampton Chess Summer League 2013 Division 3 North. This has been rearranged from the original date of Tuesday 21st May 2013. So far two matches have been played by Brewood, winning the first match away against Cannock 2½ - 1½, and then losing the 2nd match away against Bushbury 3-1.
Brewood and Stafford's various chess teams met 3 times in the Wolverhampton Chess League Division 3. The two matches against Stafford for the Brewood A team produced a win for each club by the scoreline of 3½ - 1½, in the away teams favour. The Brewood B team produced a 2½ - 2½ draw in an away match against Stafford, although the match was played at Brewood.
In the Wolverhampton Chess League in division 1 Stafford A finished 4th in a close battle for the league title, 2 points behind the eventual winner St. George's A. The Stafford B team was involved in a close battle with the Brewood A team for promotion from Wolverhampton Chess League division 3.
Stafford B eventually finished 4th as they lost their final chess match of the season away to Wolverhampton B, a result that enabled the Brewood A team to gain promotion before the final match of the winter league season.
Stafford also have teams in the North Staffordshire Chess League, in divisions 1 and 3 and in the Cannock Chess League although they play in division 2 of the Cannock Chess League, avoiding Brewood who compete in division 3 of the Cannock Chess League.
In the summer league the grades are restricted to those with a maximum grade of 120. Last year Brewood and Stafford drew 2-2 in the Wolverhampton Summer League 2012. Recent history between the sides suggests that this will be a close match. It would be nice though to win it, and the players playing will all be capable of winning their own match, but then again so will all of Stafford's players.
Team news has already been confirmed. After some confusion we now have confirmed that all of the Summer League matches will be 4 Board matches. The full line up is as follows: Stephen Micklewright on board 1, Andrew Davies on board 2, Paul Wright on board 3 and David Blower on board 4.
The club wishes the players well for the match, and for those not playing the club is open for the internal club competitions, or even just for some friendlies.
