Brewood return to action after the Christmas break and its straight into league action for the B team as they face a home match against Wolverhampton B. Should the Brewood B team win they will go above Wolverhampton B in the league.
So far this season Brewood B team have played 5 matches in the Wolverhampton Chess League Division 3, winning just one of them, although that was at least against the bottom club Rushall. The other 4 matches have produced 1 draw and 3 defeats leaving Brewood 6th in the table with 3 points from 5 matches.
Our opponents Wolverhampton are one of the most well known local clubs. It is also the oldest chess club serving Wolverhampton establisted in 1895. They have 3 teams in the Wolverhampton Chess League, thier A team is in division 2, the B team in division 3, and their C team in division 4. They also have teams competing in the Birmingham League, Cannock League and Dudley League.
Last season the various teams met each other 5 times in the Wolverhampton and Cannock Leagues. In the Wolverhampton League the A team lost 3-2 at home, and won 3-2 away, and the B team lost 4-1 at home, but then won 4-1 away to secure the place in division 3 for this season for the B team. This match also produced David Blower's and Paul Wright's first ever ECF graded victories. The Cannock League fixture between the clubs last season was a 2-2 draw.
Team news for the match remains unconfirmed with the B team captain Paul Guest frantically phoning up players the night before the match asking them if they are available to play! The club would like to wish whoever plays well for the match. For those not playing in the fixture the club will be open for the internal club competitions or even just for friendlies.
